SARGENT, John Singer (1856-1925). Portrait and landscape painter.
Autograph Letter Signed to Joicey, 2¼ pages 8vo, the final section written vertically as usual, 31 Tite Street, 2 February 1906. Discussing the relative merits of shades of red and asking Joicey to go ahead without more approval should he have left for America before the work is ready.

'The absence of shine on the new envelope is a great improvement, but I think the darker and more crimson red of the other one better. This new red especially on the white envelope is I think too orange or scarlet. ...'

There is a reasonably accurate transcription of part of the letter in pencil on the reverse. The letter itself is in Sargent's usual difficult hand.
[No: 26060]
