LOWE, Sir Hudson (1769-1844). Governor of St Helena during Napoleon's imprisonment. Letter Signed with autograph subscription to William Disney, 1 page folio (some paper loss), 'On Board the Mary Transport / Messina Harbour 20th Febry 1806. Written as lieutenant-colonel-commandant of the Royal Corsican Rangers, a body of foreign men raised by Lowe during his residency in Malta, presenting accounts. 'I have the honor to transmit herewith an accompt of levy money & allowance for Passage and Contingencies of Recruits raised for the augmentation of the Corps under my Command, between 25th December 1804 and 24th December 1805 as also the approval Returns of the Recruits certified by the General Officers by whom they were inspected. A General state of cash received and expended accompanies the accompt, by which it appears there is a balance due to me of £18-3 which difference I shall endeavour to adjust, when I receive a further sum on account of the recruiting service, from the Dep[ut]y PayMas[ter] General of this station.'The fragment missing from the head of the document is from a blank part, not affecting the text.
