SOTHEBY, William (1757-1833). Poet and translator.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, 1 page 8vo with integral blank leaf, Lower Grosvenor Street, 13 October 1826. Promising not to leave London until 'I have had the honor of obeying the commands of his Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex'.
 Prince Augustus Frederick, duke of Sussex (1773-1843) was the sixth son and ninth child of George III. He was of liberal political views and supported such policies as the abolition of the slave trade and Catholic emancipation. He was a considerable supporter of the arts and sciences and became in 1838 president of the Royal Society.Provenance: from a collection formed by A.M. Broadley in 1903.
