Autograph Letter Signed in English to Colonel Maude at Buckingham Palace, 6 pages 8vo with envelope (paper-clip stain), Chateau de Seine Interieure, 13 October 1881. Standing wholeheartedly behind Maude's plans to open a 'direct and cheap communication between Paris and London' and offering accommodation but not introductions. '... I cannot present you to the Minister of Public Works. I know nobody of the present administration. I have no direct or indirect relation with the Minister of Public Works and I feel neither authorized nor inclined to call upon him ...'In 1873, the comte relinquished his rights to the throne in favour of those of the comte de Chambord and was at this time living quietly on his estates.
