SMAREGLIA, Antonio (1854-1929). Istrian opera composer.
Fine cabinet photograph by Krziwanek, with a three-bar Autograph Music Quotation Signed headed 'Croesbecke' and dated at Trieste 19 March 1896. A good photograph of the younger composer, and a rare autograph. Smaeglia was the composer of nine operas, and was much admired by Toscanini, who commissioned him to revise Boito's unfinished Nerone.
His most famous work was his opera Nozzi Istriane, which was set in his father's village on Ischia.
