SHAW, George Bernard (1856-1950). Playwright. Late but very characteristic Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Grimwood, 1 page 4to (rather worn especially in the folds), Ayot St Lawrence, 3 January 1950. Sending a copy of his 'Vivisection book' [Shaw on Vivisection] for Stanley Dollar, discouraging Grimwood from coming to Ayot to bring a robe, and commenting on his own antiquity. '... As to the robe I cannot ask you to come to this inaccessible village until after Easter. Car from door to door is the only tolerable transit. I am never free until after 4, when the lanes are dark and dangerous, and in fog impossible. ... And all there is to see is a groggy old skeleton (93½) who was G.B.S. some twenty years ago. ...'
