STEVENSON, Robert Louis (1850-1894). Author. Autograph Letter Signed to Doctor [Fairfax] Ross, 1 page 8vo (rather foxed), Vailima, 25 November 1894. Introducing Dr Hoskyn of the Curaçoa. A letter to a good friend, a distinguished physician of Sydney, Austalia ('dear old Ross. He is a good fellow, is he not?'). Not in The Letters of Robert Louis Stevenson, ed. Booth and Mehew (1994-1995, 8 vols), and apparently unpublished. '... Let me present to you our kind friend, Dr Hoskyn of the Curaçoa. He will be able to give you all our news, good and bad, and I hope you may be able to do something for him in return, and I know, if you should be able, that you will.'Hoskyn was evidently the ship's doctor of HMS Curaçoa, on the South American station. Stevenson was friendly with many of the officers, particularly the captain, Lieutenant Eeles. [No: 20838]
